On the past 31st of August of 2011, the Independencia Thermal Power Station was reopened in Tucumán. Governor José Alperovich and Mayor Domingo Amaya were present during the re-inauguration by President Cristina Fernández via teleconference. During the first stage, the station will generate 120 MW.

Tubos Trans Electric was chosen to supply both 75 MVA-11.5/138 kV transformers.

Tucumán: A 500 MW thermal station opened

The Independencia Thermal Power Station, which was reopened yesterday, can generate an amount equivalent to 25% of Tucumán's energy consumption, estimated at 500 megawatts (MW), stated yesterday Armando Losón, president of the Albanesi group. He anticipated that energy production will start in two weeks or 10 days as progress is currently being made in the testing of machinery. President Cristina Fernández led the inauguration of the Thermal Station via teleconference.. The opening was attended by Governor José Alperovich, Mayor Domingo Amaya and members of the province's cabinet, among others. "We are keeping the promise we made at the Government House," Losón reportedly told the Head of State, La Gaceta informed. The works include the installation of two new 60 MW Pratt & Whitney open-cycle turbines, which means adding 120 MW to the system. The project belongs to the Albanesi Group and required an investment of $365 million. The power station, which was out of commission for a long time, will be completed at a second stage when it is expected to turn into a combined cycle station, increasing its total power to 165 MW. This represents almost 70% of the total consumption of energy in San Miguel de Tucumán, stated the chairman of the investment group. The facilities also include a 132 kv Switch Station and High Voltage lines that will allow to distribute the energy produced through the National Interconnection System. The Station is supplied with natural gas as it is connected to the Norte Gas Pipeline through its own physical by-pass. Additionally, the turbines will generate power using liquid fuel. For this reason, two Gas Oil storage tanks have already been installed, with a total capacity of 13 million liters.
