NEWS. 06/24/2014 - TTE pases the Short Circuit Test at CESI.
The test took place last June 24th at Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano "Giacinto Motta" (CESI), in Milan, Italy. TTE joins the limited group of worldwide manufacturers who have passed this test. Tubos Trans Electric (TTE) ratifies the quality of design and manufacture of electrical power transformers that withstand short-circuits according to the international standard IEC 60076-5.

The test took place at Centro Elettrotecnico Sperimentale Italiano "Giacinto Motta" (CESI) in Milan, Italy, the most prestigious electrical center worldwide. The tested three-phase 40 MVA power transformer and transformation ratio 132 / 13.86 kV, was designed and manufactured in the factory of TTE in Córdoba, Argentina.

The short circuit test is a requirement established by international regulations applicable to power transformers to test their ability to withstand the effects of over-currents originated from external short circuits. These regulations describe the procedures to demonstrate the thermal capacity of the transformer to withstand with no damage those over-currents. Also, the analytical evaluation method and the specific test validate the capacity of the transformer to withstand the dynamic effects of short circuits.

Over the last few years due to the complexity of the network generation, transmission and distribution, the chance of short circuits have increased imposing greater stress to the transformers in service. Faced with more severe conditions and the need to ensure the quality of the service operation, in recent years suppliers have placed greater emphasis on the validation of the transformers designs to withstand external short circuits. Even though each transformer has a specific design for the applications in which it will be used, and during its design, it's capacity to withstand short circuits is analytically verified, not all companies in the industry have the tools and methodology to calculate and validate the correct performance of their units. Because of this, every day more customers are requiring background on the ability of new transformers to withstand short-circuit according to the international standard IEC 60076-5. This background is vital when evaluating the technical capabilities of the manufacturer. In some markets such as Paraguay, Uruguay, Italy, Mexico, India, Middle East some customers have began demanding this test as a requirement to qualify as suppliers.

Although TTE has developed the most modern software to calculate and correctly validate its designs, this external validation is necessary to increase trust in the methodology we use. Moreover, TTE can now stand in a position of advantage against other manufacturers who still don't have this external validation which allows the company to conquer new markets.
